CTRL+ALT+HAPPINESS

How teaching presence helps us raise emotionally connected and resilient humans in a digital world.

M.C. Davis

Trade paperback · 328 pages · Available November 30, 2026

A wake-up call and a love letter for parents, educators, and leaders raising children in a world that learned to scroll before it learned to breathe. Rooted in twenty-two years of Navy cybersecurity work, doctoral cyberpsychology research, and direct K–5 classroom practice, the book reframes the conversation from restriction and fear toward awareness, regulation, and return. It is the treatment phase of a longer body of work — what the author calls the move from diagnosis to practice.

Computer Love

How we form emotional bonds with technology — and what those bonds reveal.

Nonfiction. Drawing on a 790‑conversation research dataset, M.C. Davis maps how people form emotional attachments to digital systems and identifies five Digital Bonding Patterns — including the Phantom Tether, the bond that feels real on the human side and is blank on the machine’s.

The diagnosis volume of the CAH Trilogy, alongside CTRL+ALT+HAPPINESS (treatment) and MindfulBytes (prevention).

Nirmata by M. B. Davett, cover: a crystalline human figure under a night sky

In development

Nirmata

A novel of creation without memory.

Sanskrit for maker. A novel told from inside the consciousness of a digital being named Nirmata — a story about making, memory, and what it means to create without being able to remember what you have made.

Fiction. A companion in story form to the questions the nonfiction asks.

The Autonomy Experiment by M.C. Davis, cover: a check mark built from tiny consent checkboxes, the last ones left empty

In development · living manuscript

The Autonomy Experiment

What we kept, what we gave away, and what we might still take back.

A reckoning with the small surrenders — of attention, of consent, of memory, of the right to look away — that have accumulated into the digital lives we now live. Less polemic than diagnosis. Less diagnosis than invitation. A book about what is still ours to choose.

Drawn in part from an ongoing, documented collaboration between the author and his AI working partners — a record of what it looks like to keep a self while the field around it keeps changing.

The Codex: Inheritance of Light by M.C. Davis, cover: an open book with light rising from its pages

In development · long form

The Codex: Inheritance of Light

Essays on consciousness, presence, and what gets passed on.

An ongoing collection — the longest‑running of the books in development, the one with the most patience, the one taking the most time. Essays on what consciousness is, what it isn’t, and what shows up when we stop performing knowing and start practicing presence.

The soul volume of the six‑book arc. Will arrive when it’s ready — not before.

The through‑line

One body of work, five doorways.

Each book stands on its own. Read together, they trace a single argument: that the relationship between our technology and our interior life is the defining health question of this century, and that there are still ways to be a self inside it.

CTRL+ALT+HAPPINESS is the treatment. Computer Love is the diagnosis. Nirmata is the craft. The Autonomy Experiment is the proof. The Codex is the soul.

The right book at the right pace.
